16 Tenets of Faith
- The Scriptures Inspired: The Bible, both Old and New Testament, is the inspired Word of God, written without error in the original MSS, the infallible rules of faith and conduct, and is superior to conscience and reason, but not contrary to reason. (2 Tim. 3:15-17; 1 Peter 1:23-25; Heb. 4:12, 2 Peter 1:20-21)
- The One True God: There is one true God, the self-revealed I AM, eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Deut. 8:4; Isaiah 43:10; Luke 3:21-22; Matt. 28:19)
- Jesus Christ: was begotten by the Holy Spirit, was born of the Virgin Mary, and is True God and True Man. We believe in His sinless life and in His miracles, and that He died for our sins according to the Scripture, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and that His shed blood is the only basis upon which all who believe in Him are justified. We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into Heaven, seated at the right hand of God, as our High Priest and Advocate. (Luke 1:35; Matt. 1:23; Phil. 2:6-7; 1 Peter 2:22; Acts 2:22, 1 Cor. 15:3-4; 2 Cor. 5:21; Romans 5:9 , Luke 24:29; Acts 1:9; Heb. 4:14)
- Man, His Fall: We believe man was created in the image of God, good and upright; but man by voluntary transgression incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death, which is separation from God; because by one man sin came into the world, therefore all human beings are born with a sinful nature. (Gen. 1:27, 2:17, 3:6; Romans 3:10-12, 23, 5:12; Eph. 2:1)
- Salvation of Man: We believe that regeneration, i.e. to be born again by the Holy Spirit as Jesus taught, is necessary for personal salvation and is obtained by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and that all who repent and by faith receive Jesus Christ are forgiven of their sins and are made children of God. (John 1:12, 3:16, 35; Luke 24:47; Eph. 2:8; Titus 3:5-7) The inward evidence to the believer of his salvation is the direct witness of the Spirit. (Romans 8:16) The outward evidence to all men is a life of righteousness and true holiness. (Gal. 5:23-23)
- Baptism in Water: We believe that all who have truly accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior should be baptized by immersion in water. (Matt. 28:19; Romans 6:4, Acts 10:47-48)
- The Lord’s Supper: The Lord’s Supper consisting of the elements, bread, and the fruit of the vine, is the symbol expressing our sharing the divine nature of our Lord Jesus Christ, a memorial of His suffering and death, and a prophecy of His second coming, and is enjoined on all believers “until He comes.” (John 6:53-57; Luke 22:19-20; 1 Cor. 11:28)
- The Promise of the Father: We believe that the baptism in the Holy Spirit as promised by the Father is given to all believers who earnestly ask for it, that it is essential for service and for the ministries of the gifts of the Spirit, and that its initial physical evidence is speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance, and is distinct from and subsequent to the experience of New Birth. (Mark 1:8; Acts 1:4, 8; 1 Cor. 12:7; Acts 2:4, 38; 10:44, 46; 19:2, 6)
- Entire Sanctification: We believe the Scriptures teach a life of holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord, and that by the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit we are enabled to live a victorious, holy life as we walk in obedience to God’s Word. (Heb. 12:4; 1 Peter 1:15-16; 1 Thess. 5:23-24; Romans 8:3-4)
- The Church: The Church is the body of Christ, the habitation of God through the Spirit, with divine appointments for the fulfillment of her great commission. Each believer, born of the Spirit, is an integral part of the General Assembly and Church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven. (Eph. 1:23-23; 2:19-22; Hebrews 12:23; 1 Peter 2:5)
- The Ministry and Evangelism: A divinely called and scripturally ordained ministry has been provided by our Lord for a twofold purpose: (1) the evangelization of the world, and (2) the edifying of the body of Christ. (Mark 16:15,20; Eph. 4:11-13)
- Divine Healing: We believe deliverance from sickness is the privilege of all believers. (Isaiah 53:4; 1 Peter 2:24; Matt. 8:16-17; Mark 1:18; John 5:14; James 5:14-15)
- The Blessed Hope: We believe that the resurrection of those who have fallen asleep in Christ and their translation, together with those who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord, is imminent and is the blessed hope of the church. (1 Thess. 4:10,18; Romans 8:23; Titus 2:13, 1 Cor. 15:51-52)
- The Millennial Reign of Jesus: The revelation of the Lord Jesus Christ from Heaven, the salvation of national Israel, and the millennial reign of Christ on the earth is the Scriptural promise and the world’s hope. (Matt. 24:30-31; Rev. 20:1-7)
- The Lake of Fire: We believe that there will be a judgment of the unsaved (Rev. 2:11-15) and that the devil and his angels, the beast and the false prophet, and whosoever’s name is not found written in the Book of Life shall be consigned to everlasting punishment in the Lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. (Rev. 19:30; 20:10; Matt. 25:48)
- The New Heavens and New Earth: We, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth wherein righteousness dwells. (2 Peter 3:13; Rev. 21:1-2)
